Laura Barquero y Tòn Cónsul continúan su excelente progresión y finalizaron cuartos, mientras Dorota Broda y Pedro Betegón siguen peleando por sellar las mínimas europeas. Aleix Gabara remontó en el programa libre en su segunda competición senior y Valentina Matos finalizó vigesimocuarta. 17 de noviembre, 2019 La novena prueba de las series Challenger tuvo lugar este fin de semana en Varsovia y contó con presencia española. Los patinadores tuvieron suerte dispar. Laura Barquero/ Tòn Cónsul firmaron una brillante actuación, con remontada incluida en el programa libre, y finalizaron en la cuarta posición en su primera prueba Challenger. Dorota Broda/ Pedro Betegón también se estrenaron en esta competición y finalizaron en la decimoctava plaza, quedándose de nuevo a un suspiro de lograr las mínimas técnicas necesarias para el Campeonato de Europa. En la competición masculina, Aleix Gabara debutó en las pruebas Challenger y completó su segunda prueba internacional en la categoría senior, consiguiendo la mínima europea del programa libre. En el evento femenino, Valentina Matos compitió en su quinta competición Challenger, quedándose en la vigésimoquinta posición. Laura Barquero/ Tòn Cónsul firmaron una excelente competición en la Warsaw Cup. Fueron sextos en el programa corto con 54,30 puntos, batiendo en dos puntos su anterior récord personal. La dupla española presentó un elegante programa con la canción "Where's my love", de SYML, que tuvo como mejores elementos un ágil doble twist, un precioso elevado de nivel cuatro y la pirueta en pareja que alcanzó también el máximo nivel, mientras que la dulce secuencia de pasos fue marcada de nivel tres. Los únicos elementos con un grado de ejecución ligeramente negativo fueron el triple Salchow en paralelo, un poco desincronizado, y el triple flip lanzado, con apoyo de la pierna libre en la salida. En el segmento libre brillaron con luz propia, batiendo con muchísima holgura su anterior marca personal con una puntuación de 105,66 puntos para un total de 159,96 puntos que supuso aumentar en nada menos que diez puntos su récord personal. Acompañados por la melodía "Somewhere in time", Laura y Tòn ejecutaron con soltura un doble twist, un triple flip lanzado y un triple toe en paralelo, además de lograr el nivel cuatro en los tres fantásticos elevados y en la pirueta. Los únicos errores fueron una salida poco limpia por parte de Tòn en el primer salto de la combinación triple Salchow-doble toe y un pequeño desequilibrio de Laura en el aterrizaje del triple loop lanzado. Dorota Broda/ Pedro Betegón se quedaron a un pequeño paso de conseguir las mínimas europeas, especialmente en el programa corto. Su original programa, con la canción "Él vive en mí" de la banda sonora de "El Rey León", comenzó con un bonito doble twist e incluyó también un magnífico triple toe lanzado. Consiguieron un nivel tres para el elevado y la secuencia de pasos, ambos con una ligera deducción en el grado de ejecución, y también la pirueta fue marcada de nivel tres. El error llegó en el salto en paralelo, un doble Axel, que Pedro dejó en un Axel simple, degradado además por los jueces, un elemento que se quedó sin puntuar. Obtuvieron 41,81 puntos y la nota técnica (22,05) se quedó a apenas tres puntos de la mínima europea. En el segmento libre tampoco consiguieron firmar una actuación limpia. Patinando con dos canciones de Sia, la dupla española ejecutó con soltura el doble twist, el triple toe lanzado y el primero de los tres elevados, de nivel tres. Pelearon el doble Axel en paralelo y consiguieron un nivel tres también en el segundo elevado, con una leve penalización en el grado de ejecución. Las dificultades llegaron en la segunda mitad, con una caída en el triple Salchow lanzado y problemas con el tercer elevado y la combinación elevado, además de tener una deducción en la pirueta en parejas. Obtuvieron una nota de 75,58 puntos en el programa libre y una puntuación global de 117,39 que les dejó en decimoctavo lugar. Hay que reseñar, no obstante. su empuje, pues Pedro compitió con molestias en una pierna (información de Hielo Español). En la categoría masculina, Aleix Gabara vivió su segunda prueba senior y la primera competición Challenger con sensaciones diversas. Su mayor error llegó en el Axel, que dejó en un salto simple, por lo que fue marcado como elemento inválido. La pirueta camel fue de nivel tres, mientas que la secuencia de pasos y las otras dos piruetas recibieron un nivel dos y grados de ejecución positivos. Aleix remontó en el segmento libre con una actuación más sólida. Realizó con precisión un triple loop y las combinaciones doble Axel-doble toe y triple Salchow-doble toe, además de un doble Lutz en la segunda mitad. También llevó a cabo una interesante combinación triple Lutz-euler-triple Salchow, aunque le marcado como incompleto el último salto, lo mismo que le sucedió con un triple flip con eje impreciso y con el segundo doble Axel. Todas las piruetas fueron de nivel tres, al igual que la fantástica secuencia de pasos. Consiguió 101,42 puntos en el segmento libre, superando la mínima técnica europea de 46,00 puntos con una nota de 47,82. El patinador catalán escaló hasta la vigésima posición final con 153,29 puntos. Aleix competirá la próxima semana en el Open d'Andorra, donde buscará sellar también la mínima europea del programa corto. En la competición femenina, Valentina Matos sumó una nueva experiencia internacional esta temporada, buscando llegar en la mejor forma posible al Campeonato de España y, especialmente, al Campeonato de Europa. En el programa corto finalizó en la vigesimocuarta plaza con 42,59 puntos. Completó la combinación triple flip-doble toe, aunque con el primer salto marcado como falto de rotación, y un buen doble Axel en la segunda mitad, pero sufrió una caída en un triple loop al que también le faltó vuelta. Consiguió un nivel tres en la secuencia de pasos, la pirueta techo y la pirueta combinada, mientras que la pirueta baja fue de nivel dos. En el segmento libre, evento que puso el broche final a la competición, Valentina acabó vigesimoprimera en el segmento con 82,93 puntos, aunque se mantuvo en la posición veinticuatro en total con una nota global de 125,52 puntos. Arrancó su programa libre con un triple Lutz, marcado con un eje erróneo, en el que tuvo que apoyar las manos en el hielo para frenar la caída. Siguió con un triple toe y un triple loop peleados, ejecutando luego dos magníficas combinaciones triple loop-doble toe y doble Axel-euler-doble Salchow. Luchó un segundo doble Axel en la recta final de su programa aunque sufrió una caída en un segundo triple toe marcado como repetido al no poder añadir la combinación. Las dos piruetas combinadas alcanzaron el nivel cuatro, mientras que la pirueta techo y la secuencia de pasos obtuvieron un nivel dos. November 17th, 2019 The Towar Hall of Warsaw hosted this weekend the Warsaw Cup, the ninth event of the ISU Challenger Series. Andrei Mozalev (RUS) dominated the Men's category after two powerful performances. The 16-year-old achieved the gold medal in his debut at the senior competition. In the Ladies event, Ekaterina Kurakova (POL) took home the gold overcoming Bradie Tennell in the Free Skating. The 17-year-old completed this way a topnotch debut in the senior competition. Jessica Calalang/ Brian Johnson (USA) managed a narrow victory and clinched their first gold medal at a ISU event and their second medal at the Challenger Series. In the Ice Dance competition, Marie-Jade Lauriault/ Romain Le Gac (FRA) egded Ksenia Konkina/ Pavel Drozd (RUS) in the Free Dance to claim the title. Andrei Mozalev (RUS) produced a wonderful debut in the Senior category. The Russian skater, who won the gold in his two Junior Grand Prix events this year and will be competing in Torino, ruled in the Short Program naling a quad toe, a triple Axel and the combination triple Lutz-triple toe. He obtained 83,81 points, his best score this season. In the Free Program, the 16-year-old hit the combinations triple Axel-double toe and triple Lutz-euler-triple Salchow as well as a triple loop. However he fell on his first quad toe and on his second triple Axel. He fought the second quad toe, althought it was underrotated, in combination with triple toe. Mozalev was first in the free segment with 139,44 points totaling 223,25 points to top the podium. Petr Gumennik (RUS) took the silver in his debut at the ISU Challenger Series and competed for the second time in the senior category after winning the Europa Cup Skate Helena last season. The 17-year-old, who had also qualified also for the Junior Grand Prix Final, was second in the short segment with 79,41 points. His quad Lutz was sketchy but then executed a fantastic triple Axel and the strong combination triple Lutz-triple loop in the second half. Gumennik held on to the silver after receiving the third-best score of the free segment. He completed a nice triple Axel but struggled with the triple flip-triple toe combination and his triple loop was underrotated. However he shone in the free segment and received the second-best score at 139,17 points, finishing third overall with 205,20 points. His free routine featured a great triple Axel, a confident triple flip-triple toe combination and two clean triples more but he underrotated the first triple Axel in combination with double toe and the back end of the triple Lutz-double toe-double loop with a wrong edge on the Lutz as well. Gabrielle Frangipani (ITA), who had finished third in the short program, slipped to the fourth place overall and missed the podium by less than three points. In the Ladies event, Ekaterina Kurakova (POL) produced an incredible debut in the senior category. The 17-year-old finished second in the short segment with 66,08 points after a clear routine where she nailed a triple Lutz in combination with triple toe, a double Axel and a triple loop. She also picked up a level four for two spins and the wonderful step sequence. In the Free Skating, Kurakova sparkled in an exquisite program that was awarded the highest score of the portion on 135,39 points. Her only mishap was an unclear edge in the flip of the combination triple Lutz-euler-triple flip that opened her program. Then she reeled off a double Axel-triple toe, a triple Salchow, another smooth double Axel, a triple Lutz and two triple loop, the first in combination with double toe. She also gathered a level four for the great spins and a level three for the footwork. She totaled 201,47 points, climbing to the first podium and winning the competition with twelve points of advantage. She smashed all of her previous personal record scores. Bradie Tennell (USA) made her debut this season at the ISU Challenger Series. She dominated the short program with 70,10 points. She aced the triple Lutz-triple toe and a double Axel but her triple flip was called for an unclear edge. Her classy spins got a level four as the step sequence received a level three. However she was fifth in the free portion at 118,91 points and slipped to the second place overall with 189,01 points. Her free program featured a fantastic triple Salchow, a nice triple Lutz and a great triple loop as well as three level-four elements but she had a fall in the opening and then went down on the back end of the double Axel-triple toe combination. She collected the silver medal, the second this season after being second at the Skate America. Elizaveta Nugumanova (RUS) returned to the international competition and clinched the bronze medal in her first Challenger Series competition. She was third in the short program with 64,37 points. She landed a triple Lutz with unclear edge, a triple loop in combination with a sketchy triple loop and a great double Axel and received a level four for the spins. In the free skating she finished fourth with 121,65 points but held on to the third position with 186,02 points overall. Her program was highlighted by a confident triple Lutz-euler-triple Salchow combination, a double Axel and the combination triple Salchow-double toe in the second portion but many of her jumps were called underrotated. Jessica Calalang/ Brian Johnson (USA) triumphed in the Pairs competition and conquered their first gold and the second medal at the Challenger Series after taking the bronze at the Tallin Trophy 2019. They won the short segment by just one point with 68,20 points, posting a new personal record. They produced a wonderful triple twist that got a level four and a fantastic throw triple flip, as well as a beautiful side by side triple Salchow. In the Free Skating. their routine was highlighted by a huge triple twist, two confident throw jumps and three level-four elements. They received 123,26 points for a total score of 191,46 points, both two new record scores for themselves. Alina Pepeleva/ Roman Pleshkov (RUS) earned their first silver medal at the Challenger Series and the second straight medal in the senior category after winning the IceLab Cup International two weeks ago. They produced a clear program in the short segment, acing a triple twist, a side by side double Axel and a beautiful throw triple flip, collecting all level fours for their elements. They registered a new season's best at 67,06 points, more than 10 points over their previous record. In the free portion, the Russian team executed an incredible triple twist, two strong side by side jumps and three gorgeous lifts that garnered a level four but she fell on the throw triple Lutz. They compiled 121,03 points in the free portion and 188,79 points overall, smashing their previous record scores. Justine Brasseur/ Mark Bardei (CAN) vaulted to the third place overall in the free portion and took home their first bronze medal in their international debut as a team. They finished fourth in the short segment hitting a triple twist and two level-four elements. In the free skating, the Canadian team completed a wonderful triple twist and fought the side by side jumps, but struggled with the throws. All of their beautiful lifts and the pair spin merited a level four, racking up 114,54 points for the free segment and 172,21 points overall. Annika Hocke/ Robert Kunkel (GER) were third in the short program but slipped to the sixth place overall in the free segment after a fall and many stumbles on their elements. Marie-Jade Lauriault/ Romain Le Gac (FRA) jumped to the first place in the Free Dance and achieved their first gold medal at the Challenger Series. They were second in the Rhythm Dance with 71,40 points. They obtained a level four for the rotational lift and his twizzles and a level three for her twizzles, the midline footwork and the Pattern Steps but the Finnstep obtained only a base level. However they struggled with the straight-line lift that was rated only a level one. They finished second in the free portion at 106,62 points, slipping to the second place overall with 178,43 points. Caroline Gree/ Michael Parsons (USA) clinched their first bronze medal in their first season competing together. They were third in both portions of the competition. Their Rhythm Dance was highlighted by their powerful twizzles that received a level four, a beautiful midline step sequence and a curve lift that got a level three. However they stumbled on the Finnstep that was graded a base level. In the Free Dance, they managed a level four for the twizzles, the spin and the three lifts and a level three for the diagonal footwork as the one foot step sequence garnered a level one. Sara Hurtado/ Kirill Khaliavin (ESP) conquistaron su primer título de campeones en una prueba Challenger, batiendo todas sus marcas personales. Natalia Kaliszek/ Maksym Spodyriev (POL) se llevaron la medalla de plata y el bronce fue para Alexandra Nazarova/ Maxim Nikitin (UKR). 19 de octubre, 2019 La Danza Libre echó el cierre al segundo día de competición en el Minsk-Arena Ice Star. La disputa por los tres puestos del podio estaba al rojo vivo, con cuatro parejas repartidas en apenas un punto. Sin embargo, las distancias se acentuaron en la danza libre, donde Sara Hurtado/ Kirill Khaliavin (ESP) brillaron con auténtica fuerza y consiguieron la medalla de oro con una distancia de prácticamente ocho puntos sobre los segundos. Hechizando al público desde los primeros movimientos, la pareja española comenzó su rutina con la secuencia de twizzles. Fue su único elemento flojo, con dificultades para Sara en los primeros giros, valorado de nivel tres para ambos patinadores. Desde ahí, su ejercicio fue cada vez a mejor, impulsado por un tempo creciente de la música. Realizaron una fluida y suave secuencia de pasos sobre un pie, marcada de nivel cuatro para Sara y de nivel tres para Kirill, un precioso elevado rotacional del máximo nivel y la formidable secuencia de pasos coreográficos que es puro arte. Con el ritmo armonioso del violín de Ara Malikian, la dupla española se adentró en la segunda fase de su danza en la que completaron la preciosa pirueta en pareja de nivel cuatro, un excelente elevado en curva y una melódica secuencia de pasos en media línea que logró un nivel tres. El sensacional elevado en línea recta que les dio problemas en el Nepela Memorial salió con absoluta precisión en Minsk, poniéndole el broche a su danza con otro elevado de carácter coreográfico. Sara y Kirill batieron con holgura sus marcas anteriores, sumando 117.39 puntos en la danza libre y una puntuación total de 193.47. Unas notas que suponen también un nuevo récord para la Danza sobre Hielo española.
