Andrei Lazukin achieved the gold medal in the Men's event as Alexander Petrov moved on one spot to clinch the silver and Anton Shulepov climbed from seventh to the bronze medal. In the Ladies' competition, Evgenia Medvedeva conquered her first gold of the season as Elizabeta Tuktamysheva rose from fourth to the silver and Victoria Vasilieva took the bronze. February 22nd, 2019 The Russian Cup Final wrapped up this Friday with the Men's and the Ladies' Free Skating. In the Men's event, Andrei Lazukin achieved the gold medal as Alexander Petrov jumped to second place to earn the silver. The bronze went to Anton Shulepov who rose from seventh place. Andrei Lazukin completed a great but not perfect program skating to "Romeo and Juliet", by Petr Tchaikovski. He had to fought for the quad toe-double toe (he had planned a quad-triple combination) and then crashed on the solo quad toe but he bounced back to execute a great triple Axel-double doe. He doubled the second Axel and put the hand down and then completed a triple flip, a wonderful triple Lutz-double Axel sequence and a triple loop. Lazukin picked up a level four the three spins and a level three for the step sequence to receive the sixth-best score of the segment at 150.60 points. However, he stood in first place overall with 242.17 points. Alexander Petrov turned in a lyrical routine to "Tosca", highligted by two great triple Axel, the second in combination with double toe, a beautiful triple loop and the combination triple flip- single euler- triple Salchow as well as three more clean triples. His major error was a crash on the opening quad toe. The step sequence and one spin merited a level three and the other spins received a level two. Petrov was third in the Free portion with 155.05 points but moved on one spot to claim the silver with 234.85 points overall. Anton Shulevop rose from seventh to achieve the bronze medal on 231.45 points. He earned the best-score of the Free Skating with 158.40 points after a precise routine. He landed a quad toe (underrotated), a triple Axel, a triple loop and the combination triple Lutz- single euler- triple flip in the first half of the program and the produced two great combinations: triple Axel-triple toe and triple Lutz-double toe. His spins garnered a level four and the step sequence was graded a level three. Konstantin Miliukov, who was second in the Short Program, dropped to seventh after a few mistakes and Dmitry Aliev climbed from 13th to ninth place. Evgenia Medvedeva shone again and skated off with the gold, but Elizabeta Tuktamysheva was the best skater of the Free segment and remained only 1.71 points away from the first place. She climbed from the fourth to the silver medal as Victoria Vasilieva nailed her routine to conquer the bronze. Skating to "Libertango", by Astor Piazzolla, Medvedeva not only delivered a wonderful routine, but kept her smile along the program and wowed the crowd in the ending. She hit the triple Lutz, but struggled with her second element. She executed a great triple Salchow and added a triple loop (downgraded), but she wobbled in the landing and couldn't avoid the fall. With a smile, she continued to nail a triple flip-double toe-double toe combination, a wonderful triple loop, a beautiful double Axel-triple toe, a triple flip and a perfect double Axel. She managed a level four for all the spins and a level three for the sparkling step sequence. It was a fantastic routine, nearly clean, and showed how much she has improved her skating along the last months. "You're a fighter", told her Tracy Wilson, her coach, while they were waiting for the scores. Medvedeva picked up 146.01 points to rank second in the Free Skating but she stood in the first place overall at 222.90 points. Elizaveta Tuktamysheva remained so close to her after a dazzling routine to "You Don't Love Me", "Petite Fleur" and "Cat Groove". She risked again a triple Axel in the opening and this time she nailed it. She continued to hit a triple Lutz-double toe, a triple flip, a wonderful triple Salchow-double Axel sequence, a fantastic triple Lutz and a great triple loop. She only struggled with the combination double Axel-triple toe-double toe, where the first toe was underrotated. She received a level four for her original and fast spins and a level three for the step sequence. Tuktamysheva achived the best score of the Free portion on 148.98 points and climbed from fourth to second overall with 221.19 points. Victoria Vasilieva jumped from sixth to the bronze medal with 208.75 points overall. She put in a wonderful and clean program, highlighted by a great triple Lutz-triple toe and a beautiful double Axel- single euler-triple flip and a solo triple Lutz in the second half of the routine. She also executed three more clean triples as well as three four-level spins to receive the third-best score of the Free segment at 138.62 points. Stanislava Konstantinova slipped from second to fourth at 206.67 points overall. She doubled the first jump, a planned triple Lutz, but then completed a beautiful double Axel-single euler- triple Salchow and another great double Axel in combination with triple toe. RUSSIAN CUP: Lazukin Leads in the Men's event and Medvedeva shines bright in the Short program21/2/2019 Andrei Lazukin took the lead in the Men's Short Program after a perfect routine, followed by Konstantin Milyukov. In the Ladies's event, Evgenia Medvedeva really shined and achieved a confident victory by just 1.42 points over Stanislava Konstantinova who came in second. February 21st, 2019 The Russian Cup Final is in the homestretch. On Thursday started the competition for the Senior Men and Ladies and on Friday is going to take place their Free Programs. Andrei Lazukin leads after the Short Program in the Men's event and Evgenia Medvedeva is currently is first place after the Ladies'. Andrei Lazukin took a strong lead in the Senior Men's competition and scored 91.57 points after a perfect Short Program. He landed a wonderful quad toe, followed by an excellent triple Axel and the combination triple flip-triple toe in the second half of his routine. He also picked up a level four for two spins and the step sequence, but the final spin merited only a level two. Konstantin Milyukov is sitting in the second place with 81.82 points. He landed a somewhat shaky quad Salchow, a triple Axel and the combination triple Lutz-triple toe and managed a level four the three spins. Alexander Petronov finished in the third place at 79.80 points. He fall in his opening quad toe but rallied to complete a great triple Axel and a beautiful triple Lutz in combination with triple toe. Vladimir Samoilov remained within striking distance of the podium in fourth place with 77.04 points. He landed a great quad Salchow but wobbled in the combination. Dmitry Aliev made costly errors in his new Short Program. He tripled a planned quad Salchow and doubled a planned quad toe, missing the combination with triple toe. Her last event was the Russian Nationals in December. Skating to "Tosca", by Giacomo Puccini, Medvedeva delivered a wonderful and confident routine. She nailed the triple flip-triple toe combination, the double Axel and a great triple loop and picked up a level four for the three spins and a level three for the brilliant step sequence. The crowd showered the ice with flowers and toys while she was celebrating with a great smile her clean short program which was awarded the best score of the short segment at 76.89 points. Stanislava Konstantinova also completed an excellent program to "Malaguena", highlighted by a double Axel, a great triple Lutz-triple toe combination and a beautiful triple loop in the second half of the routine. She collected a level four for the spins and a level three for the step sequence. She scored 75.47 points to finished in the second place, so close to the top. Anastasiia Gubanova rounds the top-three with 73.94 points. Her playful program to "Take Five" featured a triple Lutz-triple toe, a double Axel and a great triple flip as well as all level fours for the spins and the footwork. She was the only lady in the event who reach the level four for the step sequence. Elizaveta Tuktamysheva turned in a great routine but she crashed on the triple Axel (underrotated) and finished in fourth place at 72.21 points. Her routine featured seven fantastic triple jumps, like a beautiful triple flip, a wonderful triple Lutz and a great triple loop- single euler- triple Salchow combination. She picked up a level four for all the spins and a level three for the step sequences to score 130.95 points in the Free Skating and 201.06 points overall. Daria Usacheva jumped from the seventh place to take the silver medal. She only struggled with the solo double Axel in her great program, highlighted by a wonderful triple Lutz and a fantastic triple flip-triple toe combination. She obtained 128.19 points for the Free segment which added up to 189.83 overall. Anna Frolova earned the bronze medal with 189.38 points overall. She landed a great triple Lutz-triple toe, a triple flip-double toe and a beautiful triple Lutz- single euler- triple Salchow, but her triple loop was underrotated. Junior Men's competition Andrey Mozalov cruised to the gold in the Junior Men's event. He completed an excellent program highlighted by a quad toe, two wonderful triple Axel, the first in combination with double toe, and five clean triples more as well as all level-four spins. He scored 171.52 points for the Free Skating and 257.60 points overall. George Kunitas achieved the silver medal with 233.24 points overall. He struggled with the triple Axel, but landed six beautiful triples, including a perfect triple Lutz-triple toe combination. The bronze medal went to Gleb Lutfullin, who managed the second-best score of the Free Skating at 152.21 points but remained third overall with 230.86 points. His routine featured a quad Salchow, a triple Axel-triple toe combination and other great triple Axel. Pairs competition In the Senior Pairs' event, Alina Pepeleva/ Roman Pleshkov conquered the gold medal at 194.67 points. They were ranked in the first place following the Short Program and completed a wonderful Free Program to won the gold. They landed a great triple twist, a triple toe-double toe-double toe and a side by side double Axel and two wonderful throw jumps (a triple loop and a triple Salchow) as well as three level-four elements. Lina Kudryavtseva/ Ilya Spiridonov took the silver with 188.20 points overall. They nailed the triple toe-double toe-double toe combination, the triple twist and two double throw jumps (a Lutz and a Salchow), but had a fall on the side by side triple Salchow. Anastasia Poluyanova/ Dmitry Sopot earned the bronze medal. They received the fourth-best score of the Free portion with 116.28 points but stood in the third place overall on 178.99 points. They hit the throw jumps and the side by side double Axel and garnered a level four for two lifts, the spin and the death spiral. In the Junior Pairs' event, Anastasia Mishina/ Alexander Gallyamov cruised to the gold with a great program highlighted by a level-four triple twist, a beautiful throw triple Lutz, two great side by side jumps and a throw triple Salchow, as well as three level-four elements. They obtained 132.01 points for the Free Skating and totaled 202.79 points, winning the gold by more than twenty points. Stanislava Vislobokova/ Aleksei Briukhanov took the silver with 178.45 points overall. They put on a great program but missed the combination due to a fall. Tatiana Kuzmina/ Alexei Khvalko achieved the bronze medal with 172.85 points. February 19th, 2019 Tiffani Zagorski/ Jonathan Guerreiro cruised to the gold in the Ice Dance event at the Russian Cup Final in Novgorod. They took the lead in the Rhythm Dance and delivered a wonderful performance in the Free Dance. Dancing to "Blues for Klook", by Eddie Louis, they collected a level four for the lifts and the spin and a level three for the one foot step sequence and the circular step sequence. The twizzles garnered a level three for her and a level four for him. They obtained 117.49 points for the free segment which added up to 195.02 points overall. Betina Popova/ Sergey Mozgov put in a beautiful routine to "The Master and Margarita soundtrack". However she stumbled on the twizzles, which were graded a level two for her and a level four for her partner, they continued to complete a great program. They wowed the crowd with their innovative and amazing lifts and collected a level four for the spin and a level three for the step sequences. They picked up 109.89 points and 182.22 overall. Annabelle Morozov/ Andrei Bagin picked up the second-best score of the Free Dance at 110.95 points and remained in the third place overall with 180.01 points. Khavronina/ Chirizano won the gold in the Junior Ice Dance event Irina Khavronina/ Dario Chirizano danced to the gold in the Junior Free Dance, edging overnight leaders Diana Servis/ Gleb Smolkin by just 0.18 points. Servis/ Smolkin had to settle with the silver as Sonya Kamyshanova/ Dmitry Bovin moved on one spot to collect the bronze medal. Khavronina/ Chirizano turned in a wonderful dance, collecting a level four for the twizzles, the lifts and the combination spin. They obtained 99.25 points for the Free Dance and totaled 163.54 points overall to jump on spot and won the gold medal. They earned a level four for the twizzles, the lifts and the spins while the step sequences merited a level three. February 18th, 2019 The Russian Cup Final started on Monday in Novgorod. The domestic competition has reached the final stage after five qualifying rounds and now it's time to see on the ice many of the greatest skaters. In the Ladies event, Evgenia Medvededa and Liza Tuktamysheva are contending for a place in the national team for the World Championship, while Dmitry Aliev is going to put on the ice a new short program in the Men's event. The competition kicked off with the Ice Dance. In the Junior event, Diana Servis/ Gleb Smolkin took a narrow lead with 65.29 points, followed by Irina Khavronina/ Dario Chirizano at 64.29 points. Defending Russian Cup champions Annabelle Morozov/ Andrey Bagin remained in the third place on 69.06 points. They gathered a level four for the curve lift and the twizzles received a level three for her and a level four for him. They are the new Canadian Champions. December 19th, 2018 The Ladies Free Program event was full of surprises. Overnight leader Gabrielle Daleman slipped from first to fifth place after some mistakes in her routine. Larkyn Austman made several errors and remained fourth as Alaine Chartrand jumped from fifth to the gold medal after a wonderful program. Skating to "Sunset Bouleverd", by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Chartrand started with a triple Lutz- triple toe combination (underrotated the second jump), followed by triple flip and double Axel. She also landed a great triple loop and double Axel- single euler- triple Salchow combination, but the triple Lutz and the triple Salchow (in combination with double toe) were underrotated. She collected a level four for two of her spins and the step sequence to score 126.69 points, totaling 185.91 to win their first Senior Canadian title. Aurora Cotop took the silver after a wonderful Free Skating. She was sixth in the Short, but nailed her routine to "W.E." soundtrack. She landed a triple flip, triple toe- double toe, triple loop- double toe as well as a great triple Salchow, a triple toe and a double Axel in the second half of her routine. She obtained 110.37 and 169.35 overall. Véronik Mallet picked up the bronze but she had to fight for it. Her program was highlighted by a double Axel, a triple Salchow as well as the level-four step sequence and spins. Nevertheless, she fell on the triple loop and singled a Axel. She scored 107.98, totaling 168.53. Gabby Daleman, who had taken a strong lead after the Short Program, started well his Free Skating, but crashed on the three last jumps and her lead wasn't enought to stay in the podium. Nam Nguyen delivered a sublime routine skating to "La La Land" soundtrack and rose from third to take the gold. He landed two wonderful quad Salchow, the second in combination with double toe, as well as seven great triples including a fantastic triple Axel. He missed some levels in the step sequence and two spins, but his incredible routine merited the highest score of the night: 172.28 points. He totaled 258.01 and took his second Canadian gold. He had already won the title in 2015. Silver medal went to Stephen Gogolev, leader after the Short Program. The 14-year-old skater completed a fantastic show to "Sherlock Holmes" soundtrack, by Hans Zimmer that featured a quad toe, quad Salchow- triple toe combination, triple Axel and triple loop, but he doubled his opening Lutz. His program components merited a lower score than Nguyen. He received 164.79 points and 253.56 overall. The bronze medal was for Keegan Messing, who slipped from second to third. Messing had to fight through his Charlie Chaplin's show that amazed all the crowd, like he use to do. He started with a triple Lutz but he had to put down his hand on the quad toe and fell on the triple Axel. He recovered to land a great triple loop, a quad toe- double toe and a fantastic triple Salchow- triple toe. He completed his show with delicious footwork and fast spins. Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro secured the gold with their wonderful performance. Skating to songs by Pink Floyd, they reeled off a throw triple loop, a side by side triple toe, a throw triple Salchow as well as amazing lifts and the level-four death spiral. However, they struggled with the triple Salchow- double toe- single toe combination. They scored 131.28 points and totaled 202.75. It's Kirsten's second gold at the Canadian Nationals. She had already won it skating with Dylan Moscovitch in 2011. The silver went to Evelyn Walsh and Trennt Michaud, who stood in second after their lyrical Free Skating to "Romeo and Juliet". They opened with a great triple- double- double toe but they had some problems with the triple twist and the side by side triple Salchow (underrotated). They bounced back to land a great throw triple loop and throw triple toe and collected a level four for two of their lifts and the pair combination spin. They obtained 124.67 points and 189.87 overall. It's their first Senior medal at the Canadian Championship. Camille Ruest and Andrew Wolfe took the bronze medal with 104.38 points in their Free segment and 166.84 points overall, but they had many problems in their routine. Camille fell on the triple toe and missed the combination and then Andrew crashed on the triple Salchow. They landed a great throw triple Salchow and competed a difficult and original level-four spin, as well as two beautiful lifts and choreo sequence, but struggled with the throw triple Loop and had an unexpected fall on the last lift. The Ice Dance event was so competed as Piper Gilles/ Paul Poirier scored the highest mark in the Free segment, but the gold went to Kaitlyn Weaver/ Andrew Poje. They delivered a smooth performance to "SOS d'un terrien en detresse", arranged by Maxime Rodriguez. They picked up a level four for most of their elements: the difficult and original lifts, the wonderful twizzles and the diagonal step sequece. Only the one foot step sequece was graded a level three for her and the combination spin merited a level two. They added a lot of points with their fantastic choreo elements, including a striking choreo lift. They picked up 128.59 points but the total score, 213.78, kept them in the top. It's their third gold medal at the Canadian Nationals after 2015 and 2016. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier showed a mesmerizing routine that merited the best score of the segment on 129.23 points. They totaled 212.31 points and remained so close to the first place. They collected a level four for the combination spin, the excellent twizzles and the three amazing lifts, but their one foot step sequence merited a level two for Piper and a level three for Paul and the diagonal step sequence garnered a level three. They had to settle for the silver, their fifth silver medal at the Canadian Nationals. The bronze went to Laurence Fournier-Beaudry and Nikolaj Sorensen who earned 119.00 points and totaled 198.41. Their routine to "Spanish Caravan", by the Doors, and "Asturias" and "Hush", by Marcin Patrzalek, was highlighted by their spectacular lifts as well as their wonderful level-four twizzles sequence. Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro poised for gold and 14-year-old Stephen Gogolev surprised with his mature skating in the Men's event. January 17th, 2019 Gabrielle Daleman presented a wonderful program skating to "Habanera", from Carmen. She had taken a break in competition in order to focus in her health and hadn't skated since september. However, she delivered a strong and clean performance, highlighted by a triple toe- triple toe combination, a double Axel and a triple Lutz, as well as difficult spins. Only her step sequence merited a level three. She scored 70.18 points en route to gold. Larkyn Austam picked up 64.53 points and placed second after a great program skating to "Bang Bang", by Asaf Avidan. She nailed the triple loop- double toe combination, the triple Salchow and the double Axel and collected a level four for all of her elements. The third place was for Veronik Mallet, who obtained 60.55 points. She also put in a clean routine, featuring a triple toe- double toe, a triple loop and a great double Axel. They didn't take part at the ISU Grand Prix Series so their return to the competition was much awaited. They picked up a level four for the Tango Romantica step sequences as well as the wonderful twizzles and a spectacular lift. They scored 85.19 and took a narrow lead over Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier (83.08), who delivered a passionate dance to "Angelica's tango". They reached a level four for the excellent twizzles and the lift, but their Tango Romantica sequences merited a level two and three. The third place was for Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sorensen, who skated first and brought a sublime display dancing to "Adios Nonino". They made their debut at the Canadian Nationals (Laurence, in fact, is Canadian) after being competing for Denmark the past years. They obtained a wonderful score of 79.41 and all of their elements, apart from the diagonal step sequence (level 3), merited a level four. Skating to "The first time ever I saw your face", by Leona Lewis, they opened their routine with a great triple twist and a wonderful side by side triple toe. Their death spiral merited a level two but they collected a level four for the lift, the combination spin and the step sequence. They also landed a wonderful throw triple loop. Evelyn Walsh and Trennt Michaud were placed second after a confident and energetic show skating to "Come Togheter", by The Beatles. Their program was highlighted by the side by side triple toe and the throw triple loop as well as their original level-four lift. They obtained 65.20 points. Camille Ruest and Drew Wolfe scored 62.46 and stood in the third place. Their routine, to "Wild Horses", by Alicia Keys and Adam Levine included a great throw triple loop and a beautiful level-four lift. They also garnered a level four for the combination spin, but they struggled with triple twist and Camille had a wobbly landing on the side by side triple toe. He delivered a perfect routine, skating to "Run Boy Run", performed by Woodkid. The reigning Grand Prix Junior Champion started with an spectacular quad Salchow-triple toe combination, followed by a great triple Lutz and an incredible triple Axel. He picked up a level four for all of his remaining elements and obtained 88.77 points. Keegan Messing remained close to the first place after his beautiful routine to "You've got a friend in me", performed by Michael Bublé. He fell on the quad toe, but recovered to land a fantastic triple Axel and a great triple Lutz- triple toe combination. He collected a level four for two of his three spins and his step sequence merited a level three. He obtained 87.18 points. The third place was for Nam Nguyen, who delivered a clean program to "That's Life", by Frank Sinatra. He opened with a wonderful quad Salchow- double toe combination, followed by the triple Axel and the triple flip. His step sequence merited a level four as well as his last spin. Maksim Kovtum took the gold in the Men's event and Tarasova/ Morozov were the Champions in the Pairs category. Sinitsina/ Katsalapov reigned in the Ice Dance. 23 de diciembre, 2018 Saransk hosted this week the Russian Nationals, probably the most important competition for Russian skaters and the event that decides the skaters who will take part in the European and the World Championships. In the Men's event, Maksim Kovtum won the title for fourth time. He retook the Russian throne of Figure Skating after two years during which Mikhail Kolyada was the champion. Kovtum took the lead in the Short Program with 95.14 points. He performed a great program, featuring a quad Salchow- triple toe combination and a quad toe. Kolyada remained close to him at 94.70 points. The third place was for Konstantin Miliukov on 90.15 points and Alexander Samarin finished fourth with 83.24 points after missing his combination. Kovtum and Kolyada kept their places after the Free Program. Kovtum delivered a fantastic program, although he had a fall in the landing of the quad toe, and picked up 186.45 points. Kolyada earned the third best score of the Free segment at 173.70 points but remained in second overall. The best-score in the Free Skating was for Alexander Samarin, who completed a wonderful program skating to "The Greatest Showman" soundrack. He also fell on the quad toe, but he scored 182.25 points. Maksim Kovtum took the gold with 281.59 points overall. The silver was for Mikhail Kolyada at 268.40 points and Samarin jumped one place to achieve the bronze on 265.49 overall. In the Ladies' event there were a lot of changes between the Short and the Free program. Alina Zagitova was the leader after the short with 80.62 points. She performed an excellent and clean program to "The Phantom of the Opera". The Junior Alexandra Trusova scored 74.96 points and finished in the second place. Her teammate Alena Kostornaia delivered also a great program, but she fell on the step sequence and was third on 74.40 points. Stanislava Konstantiva picked up the same score, 74.40, and finished in fourth. Anna Shcherbakova scored 74.09 and remained fifth. It was not a good day for Maria Sotskova and Evgenia Medvedeva. The first girl performed a clean program, but had a lower elements score. She finished 12th. Medvedeva perform for the first time her new short program to "Tosca". She struggled with the combination singling the toe and crashed on the double Axel. She was 14th. The ranking changed a lot in the Free Program. The medals went for the Junior skaters Shcherbakova, Trusova and Kostornaia, followed by Konstantinova. Alina Zagitova finished in the fifth place and Samodurova was sixth. Medvedeva jumped to the seventh place after a wonderful free program. Anna Shcherbakova completed an excellent routine, including a well landing quad Lutz, and earned 155.69 points that guide her to the first place on 229.78 points overall. Trusova kept the second place after her Free Skating, highlighted by a great quad Lutz, but she fell on the quad toe. She scored 154.75 points and totaled 229.71 points. Kostornaia, without quad jumps, delivered a great and clean routine and earned 152.15 points which added to 226.54 overall. The fourth-best score in the the Free segment was for Evgenia Medvedeva. She performed a magnific program, although she struggled with the double Axel- triple toe combination, and picked up 143.66 points. She jumped to the seventh place, totaling 205.90 overall. Stanislava Konstantiva stayed fourth, with 138.52 points on the Free portion and 212.92 points overall. Alina Zagitova finished fifth at 212.03 points. She suffered two falls during her routine and scored 131.41 points, the 12th best score of the Free segment. In the Pairs event, Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov won the title for the second year. They earned the best score in the Short Program (80.06) and also were first in the Free Program (156.74), totaling 236.80 points. Natalia Zabiiako and Alexander Enbert were the second best, with 78.53 points in the Short program and 151.96 in the Free program. They totaled 230.49 points overall and took the silver medal for the first time after two years winning the bronze. Aleksandra Boikova and Dmitrii Kozlovskii earned the bronze medal at 220.40 points overall. They performed two clean and wonderful programs. The fourth place was for Daria Pavliuchenko and Denis Khodykin, who obtained 209.15 points. They jumped one place after the Free Skating. Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov finished in the fifth place on 204.83 points. They slipped from fourth to fifth position due to a fall during their free rotuine. In the Ice Dance event, the fight was so tight between Sinitsina/ Katsalapov and Stepanova/ Bukin. The two pairs collected high levels for their elements, but Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov performed two perfect dances and picked up the gold medal for the first time, taking the baton from Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev, the seven-time Russian Champions. In the Rhythm Dance, Sinitsina and Katsalapov scored 84.01 points and picked up a level four for the twizzles and the two Tango Romantica step sequences. Stepanova and Bukin obtained 81.95 points and their routine featured a level-four twizles and the level-three Tango Romantica sequences. Tiffani Zagorski and Jonathan Guerreiro scored 73.37 and finished in the third place. In the Free Dance, Sinitsina and Katsalapov delivered an excellent perfomance with 128.31 points. They only had a mistake during the twizzles sequence (level four for her and level three for him). Stepanova and Bukin remained so close at 126.54 points, taking the silver medal. Zagorski and Guerreiro had some problems during their routine and slipped from third to seventh place. The bronze medal went to Sofia Evdokimova and Egor Bazin, fourth after the Rhythm Dance. They scored 109.34 points in the Free Dance and totaled 179.21. Betina Popova and Sergey Mozgov jumped from fifth to fourth position on 179.21 overall and Anastasia Skoptkova and Kirill Aleshin finished in the fifth place with 175.10 points overall. Spain, France and Italy celebrate this weekend their National Championships of Figure Skating to reveal their new Champions. The Russian Nationals is taking place the next week. December 12th, 2018 Logroño hold these days the Spanish National Championsip of Figure and Synchronized Skating. One week after the Grand Prix Final in Vancouver, it's time for each country to discover their new national Champions. In Spain, the competition is going to start on Friday. Javier Fernández don't take part in the Nationals this year. He has been eight-time Spanish Champion and won the title the last seven consecutive years. In the senior category, we can enjoy with Valentina Matos, Javier Raya and Héctor Alonso; Laura Barquero/ Aritz Maestu and Dorota Broda/ Pedro Betegon in the Pairs event; and Sara Hurtado/ Kirill Khaliavin and Olivia Smart/ Adrián Díaz in the Ice Dance. The competition starts on Friday but senior skaters will compete on Saturday and Sunday. After the last competition and the victory ceremonies, will be the turn for the Exhibition Gala where we see Javier Fernandez. Here is the competition schedule and here are the names of the participants in each category. All the tickets are sold out, so the Lobete Ice Rink will be full capacity. This reveals so much figure skating has grown in Spain the last years. If you can't be in Logroño, the Spanish Ice Federation is going to broadcast the competition by streaming. National Championships in France and Italy Italy and France also celebrate this weekend their National Championships of Figure Skating. In France, the competition starts this Thursday when is taking place the Ladies' and Pairs' short programs. In the Ladies event, Laurine Lecavelier and Mae Berenice are the favorites to the title, along the young Lea Serna, who made her debut at the Senior Grand Prix Series this season. In the Pairs competition, the Grand Prix Final Champions Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres will look for their sixth title at the French Championship. On Friday will take place the Ladies Free Program, the Men Short Program and and the Rhythm Dance, with Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizerona as the great favorites. They have won the title four times until now. In the Men's category, Kevin Aymoz and Romain Ponsart will fight for the gold facing the absence of the current Champion Chafik Besseghier. On Satudary will be the turn for the remaining Free Programs. In Italy, the competition is taking part on Saturday and Sunday. Carolina Kostner, nine-time Italian Champion, couldn't compete due to an injury. In the Ladies category, Giada Russo and Elizabeta Leccardi may receive her baton. In the Men's, Matteo Rizzo wants to conquer his second title. Nicole della Monica and Matteo Guarise will look for a new gold. They have been the Italian Champions the last three seasons and this year Valentina Marchei and Ondrej Hotarek are not competing. In the Ice Dance, with the absence of the laureate Anna Cappellinni and Luca Lanotte, it's time for the Grand Prix Final bronze medalists Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabrri. This weekend also is celebrating the Austrian National Championship and the Four Nationals, a tournament for Czech, Slovakian, Polish and Hungarian skaters.
