Canadian National Championships of Figure Skating started this Monday, but senior skaters come into play this Friday when they will try to be the new Canadian Champions. Saint John, in the south east of Canada, hosts these days the 2019 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships, one of the most important events of the season, that determines places for the great events (Four Continents and Worlds). Pre-novice, novice and junior skaters have been competing since Monday and Canada just knows many of their new Champions of Figure Skating. The time for Senior skaters arrives this Friday. This season, there are several absences compared with previous years as skaters like Patrick Chan, Meagan Duhamel & Eric Radford, Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir, Elladj Baldé, Julianne Séguin & Charlie Bilodeau, Ryan Reynolds or Lyubov Ilyusheckkina & Dylan Moscovitch have left the competition and others like Kaetlyn Osmond are taking a break. Now is time for the young skaters to take the torch. Competition for senior skaters starts on Friday at 13.20 hours (local time) with Ladies Short Program. Gabby Daleman returns to competition after a small break. She didn't take part in the ISU Grand Prix series in order to focus in her health. Reigning Canadian Champion will try to win again the crown. Eighteen ladies will skate in the Ladies Senior event, including Alaine Chartrand, who made her debut at ISU Grand Prix Senior this year, at Skate Canada, and Larkyn Austman, who was part of Canadian Olympic Team in Pyeonchang 2018. At 16.10 hours, Rhythm Dance will take place on Harbour Station. Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier and Kaitlyn Weaver & Andrew Poje, who hadn't compete this season in the Grand Prix, are the favorites to the title. Also Carolane Soucisse & Shane Firus, second at 2018 Four Continents, will fight for a medal. Tessa Virtue and Scott, eight-times Canadian Champions, won the title the last two years.
